CBD oil for chronic conditions
Dr. Robert Silver achieved his lifetime goal of becoming a veterinarian when he graduated from State University’s (CSU) College of Veterinary Medicine in 1982. In the 1990s, after creating Boulder’s Natural Animal, a Holistic Wellness Center.
Dr. Silver established effective protocols for several serious, potentially life-threatening chronic diseases in dogs and cats. Such as cancer, allergies, chronic pain, inflammatory bowel disease, Canine epilepsy, and behavior problems. Dr. Silver has been using phytocannabinoids to help animals for nearly 20 years. He is the author of the book “Medical Marijuana and Your Pets” and is regarded as the leading veterinary authority on the animal endocannabinoid system.
What is CBD?
CBD is derived from a special strain of the cannabis plant also known as hemp. This is not the same as marijuana – which contains a high amount of THC, which is what makes you “high.” Hemp is regulated by law to contain less than 3% THC, which is far too little to harm your pet if administered properly.
Arthritis and Epilepsy chronic conditions for your pet
Arthritis, like in humans, is a condition that causes chronic inflammation and pain in the joints. Degeneration of cartilage causes the bones in the affected joints to rub against one another causing inflammation and pain. Large dog breeds are more susceptible to old-age arthritis as well as pets who have had a previous injury or trauma.
Arthritis in cats symptoms: decreased activity; sleeping more than usual; whining or growling when being petted or picked up; weight loss; stiffness in the affected joints.
Arthritis in dogs symptoms: stiffness and difficulty getting up and lying down; limping, trembling or tenderness when walking; decreased activity, and behavioural changes due to the pain.
Epilepsy, as in humans, is a condition where a person or pet has continual seizures. This explosive electrical activity in the brain varies in severity and can range from a mild trembling of the lip to jerking around on the floor uncontrollably.
There are two types of epilepsy in dogs. Primary (idiopathic) which is more common and dogs are healthy otherwise and secondary (symptomatic) usually caused by a structural lesion of the brain.
CBD As A Treatment For arthritis and epilepsy
CBD can act as a powerful painkiller and anti-inflammatory. CBD interacts with the Endocannabinoid System which is involved in various body processes, such as the anti-inflammatory process.
Research suggests that it triggers the body's natural anti-inflammatory response. The ECS is made up of 2 kinds of receptors; CB1 and CB2, which are designed to interact with anandamide and 2-AG (2 cannabinoids naturally produced by the body).CBD doesn’t fit into either receptor but still manages to stimulate ECS activity somehow. CBD is also known for being a great natural pain killer for your pets without the harmful side effects.
African Cannamed’s favourite Great Dane, Ruby’s Testimonial
“Seven years ago on the 26th of March life as I knew it would change completely for me and my Great Dane, Ruby. This marks the day of her very first seizure as well as the start of a complete nightmare that I still wish we could just wake up from. At that time, I never even knew dogs could have seizures. A few months later and Ruby was diagnosed with Idiopathic Epilepsy. This means that there is no known medical cause as to why Ruby gets seizures. It’s not caused by another medical condition. We could then just treat that, and the problem solved. The best we can ultimately do is to try and manage the number of seizures and ensure Ruby has a quality of life. I will never forget the worst seizure month Ruby experienced where she had 25 seizures in one month.
We have changed veterinarians so many times and I cannot even count how many times I have been told “Ruby will never get better or have a normal life, rather just put her to sleep”. I then look for the next Veterinarian.
Ruby has just been through so much after trying everything possible to then have almost lost her life twice due to pancreatitis as a result of complications with the epilepsy medication. Here comes the good part though…rewind two years from today and our lives’ changed forever when I found African Cannamed Co on Facebook. The day Ruby started using CBD oil her life changed radically. She still has seizures, but she is now able to handle and fight the monster off. She is stronger and healthier. She turns 10 in February 2021 and for a Great Dane that is already old. Factor in everything Ruby has been through and you will just have to believe me when I tell you that African Cannamed Co’s CBD oil is like Ruby’s liquid gold. It has saved my big girls' life. Ruby continues to be my hero and has shown me what it means to never give up. With the best CBD oil as our weapon of choice, we continue to fight the good fight.” Wietske Lentink
