About dental care for dogs
Most dogs show some sign of dental disease by middle age, and it often starts quietly with bad breath and a little yellow tartar. Daily dental care helps keep plaque in check: special kibble that cleans as your dog chews, dental chews and sticks, and brushing if your dog will allow it. Dental treats count towards your dog's daily food, so adjust meals to keep weight steady. Red gums, loose teeth, dropping food or a sudden dislike of chewing need a vet check. ZUKI Pet Shop stocks dental care for dogs from Hill's Science Plan, Virbac and Montego. Browse the range below, or see all our dog treats & chews.
A simple dental routine
- Give one dental chew a day, sized for your dog's weight.
- Brush a few times a week with a dog toothpaste; never use human toothpaste.
- Lift the lips every week or two and look for tartar, redness or broken teeth.
- Ask your vet to check teeth at the yearly visit.
Dog dental care FAQs
Do dental chews replace brushing?
They help, but brushing is still the best way to remove plaque. Chews and dental kibble are a good daily habit for dogs that won't accept a toothbrush.
Why does my dog have bad breath?
Bad breath is often caused by plaque and tartar, but it can also point to gum disease or other health problems. If it is strong or new, ask your vet to have a look.
